"Madoff has been under house arrest in his
$7 million Manhattan penthouse since he was arrested in early December after authorities said he confessed to his family that he had carried out a $50 billion fraud. In court documents filed Tuesday, prosecutors raised the size of the fraud to $64.8 billion, an amount recounted in apparently false statements from November 2008.
He also owns a home in France and a
$9.3 million mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, where he is a member of the Palm Beach Country Club. Madoff owns a 55-foot (17 m) fishing boat named
Bull, which is docked in the French Riviera."

Like this one person I know facing 15 years told the the judge and the whole court room "Hell yeah I did that shit... I mean.. Guilty" the judge asked him "Are you aware that during arraignment your plea was innocent?" his response "Guilty". Charges were dropped and all he had to pay was a fine and court costs.
